Flickr Project, class meets at Swain East 045
Open a
Flickr account before coming to class (one account per group)
Assignment adopted from
David Silver and
Howard Rhiengold.
Goals:
- To learn some early basics of flickr and visual storytelling.
- To learn about tagging in general and tagging images in particular.
- To learn how to learn new tools quickly and independently.
Assignment:
- Each team should have a digital camera and cable or card reader for transferring photographs to computer.
- Each team has a half hour to take pictures of the Bloomington campus that tell some kind of story. Take many pictures and select 5-10.
- Upon return to the classroom, teams have another half hour to upload the pictures to the Flickr account created for this class, tag the photos, and arrange them into a set that tells a story — title the set.
- Post the link to a slideshow and put it in your blog post for that day.
- In your blog, describe your experience with the assignment: What kind of preperation did you do? Was Flickr difficult to use? In what ways do you think Flickr would be an effective tool in creating user-generated content and sharing that content with others? Could this tool be used as a citizen-based photojournalism tool? Why or why not? Explain by referring to the readings of the day.
